About The Library

The Harrison Township Public Library serves the residents of Harrison Township, Michigan. Formed in 2009, the library was operated by volunteers for the first six years. As of 2015, the library is primarily funded through local property taxes.

About Our Librarians

Library Director

Melissa Goins is our Library Director. She has been instrumental in helping the Library grow into its present form and began as a volunteer at the library in 2009. She has served the library as Assistant Director and was the Volunteer Director in our early years. Melissa has worked in public libraries, special libraries, and academic libraries.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Oakland University and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University.

Adult Librarian

Haley has worked in public libraries for over eight years and has a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. Haley is responsible for maintaining the library’s collection of adult materials as well as overseeing adult programming, specifically craft programs. Her interests include music, baking, traveling, and taking care of her puppy, Ranger.

Adult Librarian

Brittany manages Adult Programs at the Harrison Township Public Library, where she also oversees the township’s local history collection. With experience in both museum management and public and academic libraries, Brittany holds a Master’s in Library and Information Science as well as a Certificate in Archival Administration from Wayne State University. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, taking her son to library programs, and relaxing with her cat, Iris.

Youth Librarian

Tina has worked in libraries since 2004 and holds a dual Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and History from Wayne State University, with a K-8 certification. In 2011, she earned her Master of Library and Information Sciences from Wayne State University, specializing in Youth and Teen Services. In her current role, Tina is the Head of Youth and Teen Services and is responsible for planning and facilitating all children’s programming and maintaining the youth materials collection. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her two children and her three dachshunds.

Youth Programming Associate

Lauren has worked at the Harrison Township Public Library since 2021, starting at the circulation desk and working her way up to the Youth Programming Associate position. She helps plan and facilitate youth programs. Lauren is currently a college student. Outside of work, Lauren enjoys reading, going to concerts, and watching Dancing With the Stars.

Community Relations Manager

Maya is our Community Relations Manager. Having recently graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Communication Studies in 2024, Maya has a background in news and magazine journalism, public relations, and social media management. Maya enjoys spending her free time rock climbing, baking, talking about birds, and lying on the couch with her cat, Boozy.
